Quebec’s Mining Industry : An essential engine for economic development

Thanks to the perseverance of workers in the mining industry and their ability to innovate, Quebec was able to quickly resume a level of activity comparable to that which existed before the COVID-19 pandemic. It will, however, be interesting to see what repercussions this crisis has had, particularly on employment, spending and productivity. The historic rise in the price of gold, which rose to US$2,000 per ounce in August 2020, has undoubtedly helped absorb some of the losses related to COVID-19, as has the good performance of the price of iron.
